Android is coming to bathrooms around the world through a smart mirror

In the age of the smart home, one can expect every appliance in their abode — from the juicer to the porcelain throne — to be smart and controllable with voice or through almost any imaginable combination of smart devices and AI assistants. At CES this year, many companies, among which Appleand Samsung, announced various smart home device integrations and new products, further solidifying their commitment to the home of tomorrow.
One of the more interesting announcements at this year’s show comes from Capstone Connected Home and is about a smart mirror. As any other mirror, this one is reflective, so you can see yourself looking horribly tired early in the morning, but it’s also different because underneath the reflective layer, resides a display.
Now, unlike the myriad Google Assistant– and Alexa-enabled smart speakers and displays that are flooding the market, this mirror is apparently running actual Android, with access to the Play Store and everything this entails. The mirror also has full support for Google Assistant and can be interacted with via voice commands, which is a good thing, but according to Android Authority, it also supports touch, which will, no doubt, turn the glossy gadget into a messy canvas of fingerprints.
Aside from these methods of interaction, the Capstone Smart Mirror also has a dedicated control hub. Resembling a big tablet, the Hub can also be used independently as an entertainment device (and who doesn’t need one in the bathroom?).
There’s no info on pricing yet, but Capstone Connected Home intends to launch a number sizes and models this year.
